9/9/9/9

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Any date with repeating numbers is a marketer’s wet dream! Let’s celebrate the release of the remastered Beatles albums (9/9/09) and the Sega Dreamcast (9/9/99) with the best thing I have ever made!

John: “Oh god, Paul’s turning into Sonic”

Ringo: “URGGGG”

(George is way too cool to ever play Dreamcast)

Worst Doodles 2008-2009 School Year

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Woo-wee, these are some terrible drawings.

As I said in the “Best of…” post, doodling is partially compulsive, and as a result some terrible crap gets littered on my notes. This is the kind of stuff that I am embarassed of, and will cover up in class so that people don’t see it.

But here are 5 of the worst from the 2008-2009 academic year anyways. ENJOY:

“**Urp!**”

This is beyond words, it makes me nauseous just looking at it. It’s important to also show how I take notes in the style of J-Kwon or Nelly.

“Circus Peanutz”

This one is a little bit of everything: my love for the Chicago Cubs and Halloween, my contempt for my film class, 3-d letters and boxes, and futile attempts at drawing a Hind-D. I think it actually represents how I feel now that I am out of school and unemployed.

ddl-02

“Famous Original Ray’s”

Boy’s got pizza on the brain.

ddl-05

“Shake Ur Butts”

No, actually, this was probably the best drawing of the year. I’d say >80% of anything I draw involves eye-laser-caused explosions.

ddl-16

“Checkmate”

A perfect failure. But I think the facial expression and unwieldy arms have a sort of universal appeal – we’ve all felt like Clown-robot Patrick McGoohan.

Best Doodles 2008-2009 School Year

Monday, June 8th, 2009

I have been doodling in class for as long as I can remember. There isn’t a piece of notepaper or handout I have touched that doesn’t have at least one sort of doodle on it, from full-size galleon to tiny “3-D” cube. My habit to doodle is more compulsive than fun (drawing helps me pay attention), but I’ll often produce stuff in the margins of classwork that I think is pretty neat.

I recently graduated college, meaning that the past academic year was my last where I’ll have hours (and reams of paper) a day to doodle. So, in celebration (or memoriam?) I looked through all my remaining papers and notebooks from the past year and have selected the best and worst to share.

I guess the images here look more “drawing” than “doodle”, but they were still made in an effort to stay awake and focused, so they’re doodles. Anyways, here are the best:

“Free Market: Export of Robots to Central America”

I almost always fail at my attempts to render jets, but robots are usually no problem.

ddl-09

“Latin America vs. the Martians”

Porfirio Diaz had bigger problems than leading his people – he had to save them!

ddl-10

“Cinema Buddies”

This is what I think aliens look like – particle men and vampires.

ddl-01

“College Tuition”

This was a reminder to myself to do the homework, and screaming apes usually grab my attention best.

ddl-11

“Variations”

Wow cool, a gun! crank 2! batman!! I didn’t even see that crappy Luc Besson movie.
